Credit Recognition

Recognition of master’s course credits for new students of doctoral program

The maximum number of credits recognized from the master's program is 30 credits. Students who graduated from a special graduate school can get recognition for up to 24 credits.

Reenrolled students

When a student who previously went to our Graduate School and was expelled then re-admitted to the same course, the student can receive credits earned before expulsion.

Transferred students

In case of transferred student, a maximum of 15 credits can be recognized for a master's program, a maximum of 18 credits for a doctoral program, and a maximum of 18 credits for an combined master's and doctoral program.

Credit Exchange

If a graduate student wishes to receive credits from a graduate school of another university subject to credit exchange credit, the “Graduate School Credit Exchange Enforcement Rules” shall apply. In addition, if an exchange student from a partner foreign university or research institution that have concluded an agreement for international, academic, exchange, and cooperation, wants to get recognition after completing credits, the “Bylaws for exchange students from international institutions” shall apply. A maximum of 6 credits per semester, a total of 9 credits for the master's or doctoral program, and a total of 15 credits for the combined master's and doctoral program can be recognized.

Courses of other departments

Credits can be recognized if you complete a course in a master's program, a doctoral program, or a combined master's and doctoral program opened in other departments of the Graduate School, under the guidance of an advisor of each department.

Bachelor’s and master’s linked courses

If a student has completed general graduate school or each special graduate school course while attending the bachelor's degree program at the university enters the relevant graduate school, up to 6 credits may be recognized as credits completed in the graduate school's master's program or the combined master's and doctoral program. However, the credits for graduate school courses (undergraduate or master's course, combined master's and doctoral course) are limited to the credits recognized by the department in excess of the undergraduate graduation credits.
